Why did you choose this fieldwork?
Location near my house; a setting that I was interested in.
Please indicate type of setting:
Inpatient, Rehabilitative
Please describe your living and commuting situation. (Was accomodation offered? Public transportation or parking offered? Please include price paid, location and conditions.)
Lived at home and commuted. I don't think that they offer accommodations. Public transportation could likely be used, but not necessary for me. Free parking provided.
Describe types of conditions or diagnoses, as well as age ranges exposed to during this fieldwork.
Very diverse range of conditions....CP, TBI, CVA, amputations, SCI, TKA/THA.....Most patients are late 50s to early 80s...some as young as 18 though.
What types of assessments and interventions were used?
Assessment primarily based upon the FIM. Interventions were very functional...BADLs, Advanced ADLs, community outings, clinic interventions (strengthening, endurance, functional mobility, cognition...)
What are your thoughts on the site's environment for the employees and students? (Please consider: organization, collaboration, mentoring, learning opportunities)
Very organized, quite obvious they have been taking students for awhile. CI's really knowledgable and provide students with diverse experiences. Encouraged to observe various disciplines (PT, SLP, Rec Therapy...) to see what they do/how they interact with patients.
Please comment on personality traits and/or preparation that would facilitate success at this site.
Know the FIM inside and out. Be prepared to carry a heavy caseload so address time management. Short, concise documentation. Functional interventions (be creative).
How many stars would you give your experience, from one to five?
