one review (average star rating: 4.0 out of 5.0)

Why did you choose this fieldwork?

I choose this for my physical disabilities fieldwork. It was a very nice hospital. I got to see in-patient, rehab, and psych. They also had clinics for ALS that I was able to see. Very knowledagle staff and you get experience with computer documentation

Please indicate type of setting:

Inpatient, Acute, Rehabilitative

Please describe your living and commuting situation. (Was accomodation offered? Public transportation or parking offered? Please include price paid, location and conditions.)

I lived in some apartments that provided a shuttle service to the medical center. I paied about $900 at the time for a 2 bedroom. You can drive as well, but you have to pay for commuter parking and ride the train in a few blocks.

Describe types of conditions or diagnoses, as well as age ranges exposed to during this fieldwork.

All adult age 20-95. CVA's, Brain Injury (traumatic and surgical), MS, ALS, orthopedics.

What types of assessments and interventions were used?

General hospital assessments. ADL's and strengthening; NDT, taping; functional activities (they have a set-up market and washer and dryer available); sometimes go on outings with patients and rec therapist for community intigration.

What are your thoughts on the site's environment for the employees and students? (Please consider: organization, collaboration, mentoring, learning opportunities)

Very supportive of students. You get to attend inservices and at the time, I gave one as well on the OT practice framework which was farily new. You also get the chance to work in a multi-disciplinary team (PT/OT/ST/SW/RN) and enteract with them all during weekly discussions with the medical doctors.

Please comment on personality traits and/or preparation that would facilitate success at this site.

Flexability with changing your schedule, computer skills, ask questions if you don't know

While in the area, don't miss ...

The parks and fountains around Houston. Multi-cultural food and Kemah boardwalk.

How many stars would you give your experience, from one to five?
