Why did you choose this fieldwork?
I am originally from California however I went to OT school back east. Given that I am from the Bay Area Alta Bates Med Ctr has always had a great reputation. I completed my level two fieldwork at this facility. The first 3 Months of my rotation was in Acute Rehabilitation(which is located on the 5th floor). The second portion of my fieldwork was in the same hospital however the setting was Inpatient Acute Psych Lock down unit (This was located on the 3rd floor.

I lived at home with parents. I drove my car however the hospital is B.A.R.T (Bay Area Rapid Transportation: Metro system) accessible. If you decided to drive there is free parking at the hospital.
Describe types of conditions or diagnoses, as well as age ranges exposed to during this fieldwork.
In the Acute Rehabilitation my patients age range from 23 to 90. The patients had various diagnosis which included CVA, SCI, TBI, COPD, ORTHO, Autoimmune disorders. The Acute psych patients age range from 12 to 90. These patients also had various diagnosis Bi polar (manic and depressive symptoms), Paranoid Schizophrenia, Major Depression, Eating Disorders, as well as some overlap of physical dissabilities and personality disorders.
What types of assessments and interventions were used?
The Acute rehabilitation has a 7 page evaluation. That is not a typo 7 PAGE evaluation. This eval includes Assesment of the UE and Trunk, Sitting and standing balance, Strength testing, ROM, Sensation, Vision, Cognitivie Perceptual, Home evaluation, and the FIMS. The psych setting the evaluations were based on interviews and the Allen cognitive level screen if appropriate.
What are your thoughts on the site's environment for the employees and students? (Please consider: organization, collaboration, mentoring, learning opportunities)
The employees were great on both floors. They are ready and willing to help. The OTs are experienced and have been in the field 6 years plus.
Please comment on personality traits and/or preparation that would facilitate success at this site.
you have to be fast paced and very well organized to do well in the acute rehab. You have to know your axis and diagnosis to do well in the aute psych.

Any lasting thoughts or advice?
If you want to be prepared for everytihing Acute rehab and Psych will have to offer as a new practitioner this is the place for you.
